As per the modified guidelines issued by the Government of India, Minor Irrigation schemes with potential more than 50 hectares which serve tribal areas and drought prone areas in the non-special category states are eligible for inclusion under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) effective from December 2006, Karnataka state is classified as one of the nonspecial category states. 81 taluks in the state are approved under Drought prone Area Programme (DPAP). Hence Minor Irrigation schemes with potential more than 50 hectares in these 81 taluks are eligible for inclusion under Accelerated Irrigation. Benefit Programme (AIBP). Central Assistance will be in the form of central grant that will be 90% of the balance estimated cost of the project worked after excluding the previous expenditure and considering the cost of the schemes upto Rs. 1.5 lakh per Ha. The balance cost of the project will have to be borne by the State as state s share. Government of Karnataka has identified the new Minor Irrigation Schemes in these taluks to seek approval of Government of India under AIBP. Finance Department, Government of Karnataka has also approved the proposal of the Water Resources Department (Minor Irrigation) for according approval to such schemes. The Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation North Zone Bijapur in the letter read above has requested for according administrative approval to the estimates of the works proposed under AIBP. Implementation of these projects should be taken-up only after receipt of necessary approval from the GOI. 2. The projects are to be completed with in a period of 2 years after receipt of approval of Government of India to these schemes. 3. The funding of the scheme is in the ratio of 90:10 between the Central Government and State Government. 4. The Central share is in the form of grant to the State. 5. The projects will be implemented by the Water Resources Department (Minor Irrigation) as per the KTPP act. 6. The implementation of the project shall adhere to the terms and conditions of the guidelines issued by the GOI. 7.
